The organization consists of representatives of national aphasia association, particularly in Europe, but also in the U.S., Japan and Argentina.
AIA has its headquarters in Brussel, Belgium.

Since the early 1990s, the AIA invited members to the General Assembly, GA;
once a year.
In October 2008 GA-meeting was held in Tallinn, Estonia. In 2009, held an extraordinary GA in April to discuss the AIA's future and how we can make the AIA more accessible. Then there was a regular GA meetings in September, when it was decided the future of the questions and the new statutes and new membership. Both meetings were held in Brussel.
GA-September meeting elected a new board for three years.

EDF is the European disability movement's organization that has a dialogue with the EU Parliament on issues concerning people with disabilities.
