Hispano-American Aphasia Day is observed annually on June 28th. This date was selected to coincide with the birth anniversary of the French physician Paul Broca, a pioneering neurologist who first identified the region of the brain responsible for speech production (known as Broca’s area).
The day focuses heavily on the Spanish-speaking community to raise awareness about aphasia, a neurological disorder that affects a person’s ability to express, comprehend, read, and write language—often following a stroke or brain injury.
