My name is Beatriz González Ortuño, I´m a mexican aphasiologist. In the last 28th of june, we did an art exhibition to raise aphasia awareness. All the paintings and texts were made by aphasic patients, their relatives, speech pathologists and caregivers. I showed it to Jean Marie, and he thinks it may be good to put it in the AIA website on the news section.
The exhibition is called: VOCES DE LA AFASIA (Aphasia´s voices).
This year we invited people with aphasia and their loved ones, to take part in the VOCES DE LA AFASIA project. The call allowed for self expression of graphic works, paintings, drawings and photographs, as well as written pieces, including narrative and poetry. The project concluded with a travelling exhibition held in public spaces open to all. The goal of showing artistic expressions was achieved, turning different locations into galleries. We collected 43 graphic works and 15 written works from 10 states of the mexican republic. The openness and access to spaces where different works coexist, served to demonstrate once more that aphasia has a face, a name and a voice. WELCOME TO THE EXHIBITION.
